Can You Imagine!
One Cube of Neutron material – 1 cm^3 of neutron star material
1 Pico second - 1 millionth of a second – equals 1/1,000,000th of 1 second
1x10^8 Megatons of energy:
The Impact of the asteroid that caused the extinction of the dinosaurs
1x10^17 Megatons of energy:
The Impact - energy released - by the asteroid collision into the Earth causing the formation of the Earth’s moon.
9x10^27 joules or 2x10^12 Megatons of TNT:
Gravitational Binding Energy of 1 cubic centimeter of neutron material.
What happens If one cubic centimeter of neutron star material arrives on my kitchen table? The cube will explode within 30 Pico seconds on arrival, because the gravitational force holding it together will have disappeared. But then, what kind of explosion will that be? Science explains that it definitely will not be an ordinary or extraordinary explosion or anything manageable.
The gravitational binding energy of neutron star material is about 18.7% of the mass of the cube. The neutron decay energy is only 0.44% of the mass of the cube, but that’s not really separate from the gravitational binding energy because it’s gravitation that is forcing the neutrons to be neutrons. The mass of the cube of neutron star material is about 100 billion kg. Using Einstein’s E=MC^2 this gravitational binding energy works out to be 9x10^27 joules or 2x10^12 Megatons of TNT equivalent.
